Kazakhstan plane crash: Passenger jet comes down near Almaty airport
The plane crashed just after take-off, killing at least 12 people
We start in Kazakhstan, where a passenger plane has crashed, killing at least 12 people but leaving dozens of survivors. The Bek Air plane was flying from Kazakhstan's largest city, Almaty, to the capital Nur-Sultan when it hit a building just after take-off. About 60 people are being treated in hospital. We get the latest from our correspondent.
Also, in South Africa the bodies of seven men have been found dumped next to a highway in the town of Benoni in the north-east. We speak to a local reporter.
And to mark the end of the year, our Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen takes us through the major ongoing stories from the region, including protests in Iraq and Lebanon.
