Greta Thunberg: Governments failing on climate change
The 16-year-old activist says countries are hiding behind clever accounting and PR
The teenage campaigner Greta Thunberg has accused governments and corporations of failing to tackle climate change. She says they are hiding behind clever accounting and PR. She made the comments while addressing the UN Climate Change Conference COP25 in Madrid. The activist was later named as Time magazine's youngest ever person of the year. We'll hear some of what Greta Thunberg said with analysis from our correspondent at the conference.
Also, our correspondent will tell us more about the Green Deal presented by the President of the European Commission Ursula Von der Leyen. It ensures EU countries are carbon neutral by 2050.
And the chief medical officer at New Zealand's National Burns Unit has said that an estimated 1.2 million square centimetres of replacement skin will be needed for victims of the White Island volcano eruption on Monday. The exact number of deaths caused by the eruption is unclear, but police say at least six people died and nine are officially missing. Another 22 people are in intensive care with severe burns. Our health correspondent explains more.
