China prepares to mark 70th anniversary of Communist Party rule

Show of pageantry & military might in Beijing but violent protests continue in Hong Kong

On Tuesday, the authorities in Beijing will put on a massive show of pageantry and military might to mark the seventieth anniversary of the founding of Communist China. Meanwhile in Hong Kong, four months of increasingly violent protests against the mainland authorities are continuing.

Also in the programme: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman warns that oil prices may soar if the world does not act to deter Iran; and police close down a baby factory in Nigeria.
