Irish PM: ‘Clean break’ between UK and EU not possible
The Irish PM has met Boris Johnson in Dublin and warned there's no such thing as a clean, no-deal Brexit.
The prime ministers of UK and Ireland say common ground was established at their meeting in Dublin today. But in a marked sharpening of tone, Mr Varadkar said that the current stumbling blocks would still have to be tackled even if Britain left without a deal at the end of next month. Mr Johnson says he wants changes to the current Brexit deal, including the so-called Irish backstop. Also on the programme: The government of the Bahamas defends itself against accusations it's been too slow in responding to hurricane Dorian; and how rebel groups and paramilitaries in Colombia are recruiting more young people than ever, despite a peace deal.
