US to China: leave Hong Kong alone

As protests in Hong Kong continue, a statement by the US House Foreign Affairs Committee has called on Beijing to “cease encroaching on Hong Kong's autonomy”. The protests began 10 weeks ago to demand democratic reform. China has condemned violent clashes which broke out on Tuesday as "behaviour that is close to terrorism".
