UN Secretary General warns world has almost reached a point of no return

As delegates from nearly two hundred countries begin climate talks in Madrid, the UN Secretary General has called for much greater ambition to prevent catastrophic temperature rises; the British prime minister, Boris Johnson, has told the BBC that 74 people jailed for terror offences and released early will have their licence conditions reviewed; and the Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has announced on national TV that he will step down in the new year, amid a crisis over a murdered journalist.
