Hakeem al-Araibi: Thailand frees refugee footballer

The Bahraini football player has been freed from jail after an international outcry.

The Bahraini football player and refugee has been freed from jail in Thailand after Bahrain withdrew its extradition request for the player. In Bahrain he was sentenced in absentia to 10 years in prison for vandalising a police station. He fled to Australia in 2014 and was granted political asylum, but in November 2018 he was detained in Bangkok on an international arrest warrant requested by Bahrain.

In India more than 70 people have reportedly died after drinking home-made liquor. In a subsequent crackdown by the government, 300 people have been arrested, we learn how and why this happened.

We also hear from Haiti, where protests there have entered their fifth day.
