US Defence Secretary James Mattis Announces Resignation
His announcement came after President Trump said he was withdrawing troops from Syria.
The US Defence Secretary Jim Mattis has become the latest in a string of senior Trump administration officials to resign. His abrupt decision came the day after Mr Trump announced he was withdrawing US troops from Syria - a decision which General Mattis is understood to have opposed.
