The US State Department announces new sanctions on Russia in response to the Novichok poisoning of the former Russian spy, Sergei Skripal, and his daughter Yulia, in the English town of Salisbury in March. These could lead to the banning of most Aeroflot flights to the United States, and severely limit bilateral trade between Washington and Moscow.

And for the first time in more than 20 years, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo won't be a Kabila after December's election.
