Nigerian Journalist Released Without Charge After Two Years

The family of Jones Abiri did not know if he was dead or alive.

Nigerian journalist Jones Abiri has been released after two years in prison without charge. During his arrest, he was refused access to a lawyer and unable to speak to his family, who did not know if he was dead or alive.

American soul icon Aretha Franklin has died at the age of 76. Franklin won 18 Grammys and had 17 Top Ten US chart hits over a musical career spanning seven decades.

Lawyers representing the Ugandan opposition MP and musician Bobi Wine say he has been brutally beaten whilst in detention. They say he was unable to walk or speak when he appeared before a military court in the northern town of Gulu.
