Iran Judges To Halt Executions of Drug Offenders

Iran's head of the judiciary puts thousands of death sentences for drugs offenders on hold.

The head of Iran's judiciary has announced that thousands on death row for drugs crimes are to have their sentences put on hold. Ayatollah Sadegh Larijani issued the order which could mean that most of the prisoners will have their punishments commuted to a jail term.

Also on the programme: the rape and murder of a child in eastern Pakistan has provoked national outrage; and fake paintings of Modigliani have been on display in the Italian city of Genoa.
