Leading candidates remain in prison and exile in the run-up to Catalonia's regional election.
Leading candidates remain in prison and exile as Catalan parties start campaigning for the regional election on 21 December. The Spanish Supreme Court has withdrawn a European arrest warrant for the former leader of the region, Carles Puigdemont, but he still faces arrest on charges of sedition were he to return to Spain.
