US President Donald Trump has called for drug traffickers to face the death penalty

US President Donald Trump has called for drug traffickers to face the death penalty as part of his plan to combat the US painkiller-addiction epidemic. He outlined the proposal during a speech in New Hampshire, a state badly affected by the opioid crisis.

A South African investigation into the deaths of more than one-hundred-and-forty psychiatric patients has concluded that the health authorities were guilty of using torture. The retired judge in charge of the inquiry, Dikgang Moseneke, has ordered the state to pay each family almost one hundred thousand dollars in compensation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping has told the National People's Congress that China must not become complacent about its development. Speaking at the closing session of the annual parliament, Mr Xi said China was a critical stage in its history and only socialism could save it.
