
Polls Open in Catalonia
Elections were called by the Spanish government after imposing direct rule
The people of Catalonia go to the polls today in elections called by the Spanish government which imposed direct rule on the region after October's unlawful independence referendum.
The leader of South Africa’s governing ANC party, Cyril Ramaphosa, has been outlining his priorities. In a speech wrapping the up the ANC conference, he said that the focus of his leadership will be improving the economy.
Ugandan MPs have overwhelmingly voted to remove age limits the presidency allowing President Yoweri Museveni to run for a 6th term in office. They also decided to reintroduce a two-term limit for heads of state which means President Museveni could stay in office until 2031.
