North Korea and US 'in direct contact', says Tillerson

The US Secretary of State has met the Chinese President to discuss North Korea. After talks in Beijing with Xi Jinping, Mr Tillerson said there were channels of communication between Washington and North Korea which were being used to ask whether Pyongyang wanted to talk. Also: tensions rise in the Spanish region of Catalonia as they prepare for an independence referendum on Sunday, and a new exhibition has opened in Moscow honouring the life of the British double-agent, Kim Philby.
