Obama Urges 'Reject Politics of Division'

Former US President Barack Obama was back on the campaign trail a few hours ago, for the first time since the end of his presidency. Mr Obama campaigned for Phillip Murphy in New Jersey and Ralph Northam in Virginia as the Democrats tried to utilise his pulling power.

European Council President Donald Tusk has explicitly ruled out any EU action over Catalonia, despite the "concerning" situation. "There is no room, no space for any kind of mediation or international initiative or action," he said.

In Uganda, police have banned what they say are illegal demonstrations against plans to remove the age limit on becoming president. The move is seen as a way for President Museveni to serve a sixth term in office.
