The US president has been speaking at a rally in Arizona. He defended his response to the attack in Charlottesville and reaffirmed his promise to build a wall along the border with Mexico.

The US secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, has acknowledged that America may not be able to win the war in Afghanistan. At a news conference, he said the Taliban couldn't win either, and at some point peace talks would have to take place.

Angolans are preparing to go to the polls to choose a new president. The country’s President Jose Eduardo dos Santos is standing down after 38 years in power. But with his children in prominent positions in Angola, and the incoming president's powers weakened, Mr Dos Santos is unlikely to be completely out of the picture.
