Madams: Exposing Kenya's Child Sex Trade

Africa Eye uncovers child sex trafficking in Kenya’s transit town, Maai Mahiu, and follows one woman, Baby Girl, who rescues girls from abuse and exploitation.

Africa Eye, "MADAMS: Exposing Kenya's Child Sex Trade" investigates how children are being sold for sex.

In the transit town of Maai Mahiu, in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, undercover reporters expose two women exploiting children — one claiming to have a girl as young as 13 years old. In Kenya, the trafficking or sale of minors under the age of eighteen carries a prison sentence ranging from ten years to life.

The film also follows the work of a woman known as 'Baby Girl', who is on a mission to rescue and protect girls who have been abused, and ensure they have a brighter future.

Baby Girl, who has been a sex worker for 40 years, has been supported though a USAID stipend, to protect her community and help prevent HIV. But as USAID contracts come to an end in Kenya, the future is uncertain.

Njeri Mwangi reports from Kenya’s Rift Valley.
