Sudan's footballers provide 'joy amongst the chaos'
Sudan’s Abobaker Eisa is hoping victory for the men’s national football team over Ghana will provide hope during the civil war in the country.
Eisa played the full match of their 2-0 win against Ghana which puts Sudan on the verge of qualifying for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations – which the left winger says “would be a dream come true”.
The match was played in the Libyan city of Benghazi as Sudan cannot play at home because of the civil war in the country.
Eisa spoke to Newsday’s Isaac Fanin after the match about the impact their head coach Kwesi Appiah has had on the team – especially the mentality – and how they’re looking to provide “joy” for the people of Sudan.
