As Australia voted yes, Stewart said yes
In a historic poll for Australia, 61.6% of people have voted in favour of legalising same-sex marriage.
The issue had gone to a non-binding postal vote after a long and bitter debate about changing the law.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull said his government would aim to pass legislation in parliament by Christmas.
