
France Elects Centrist Macron As Its New Leader
He's the country's youngest leader since the 18th century
The French president-elect, Emmanuel Macron, has promised he'll use his mandate to unite a divided country and rebuild its economy. Elected with two-thirds of the valid votes, Mr Macron admitted the task facing him was daunting and that he would need to build support for his programme of change.
The Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, is flying back to London for medical treatment. It's the second time he'll take a leave of absence from his post. Earlier this year, he spent several weeks seeing doctors in the British capital.
And we speak to a researcher who is a member of a group of scientists claiming they have for , the first time, measured how a species of zooplankton called giant larvaceans contributes to the transfer of atmospheric carbon to the deep ocean.
