German lawmakers have approved a law partially banning the full-face Islamic veil
Members of the lower house of parliament in Germany have approved a law partially banning the full-face Islamic veil known as the burqa. The move follows several jihadist attacks, including a truck attack on a Berlin Christmas market that killed twelve people.
Pope Francis is visiting Egypt, home to some of the Christian faith's earliest churches. It's the first time the Pope has visited Egypt since 2000, coming just a month after church bombings by Islamist extremists killed 45 worshippers in the region.
Over the last three days, close to 25,000 people have been displaced by intense fighting around the town of Kodok in South Sudan. That's according to Medicine Sans Frontiere, who say that aid agencies, who were already spread thin, are now having to suspend operations due to the stability.
