Pont de l'Europe: symbol of Franco-German reconciliation
France has been bracing itself for the presidential election on 23rd April. It's the most uncertain election in a generation and a run-off is expected on 7th May. Ahead of the French presidential election later this month, a Newsday team is in Strasbourg, in the north east of the country, to hear about people's expectations in the run-up to polling day. Strasbourg is the most European of French cities. It is home to the European Parliament for one week every month and it is not far from the German border. In two weeks' time a tram line will be crossing the Pont de l'Europe bridge linking Strasbourg to its much smaller German neighbour, Kehl.
