US Drops 'Mother of All Bombs' on IS

The US military says it has dropped a 21,600lb (9,800kg) bomb on a tunnel complex used by Islamic State militants in Afghanistan. The GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), known as "the mother of all bombs", is the largest non-nuclear bomb ever used by the US in a conflict.

The UN has voted to end its peacekeeping mission in Haiti. drawing a line under an operation which has been in place for more than twenty years. The mission is credited with easing the path to stability, but has also been dogged by accusations of sexual abuse and involvement in a cholera epidemic.

Saturn's ice-crusted moon Enceladus may now be the single best place to go to look for life beyond Earth. The assessment comes on the heels of new observations at the 500km-wide world made by the Cassini probe.
