Has the Diplomatic Effort Failed Syria?

Today across the BBC World Service, we will take a snapshot of the situation in Syria. We are looking at what life is like for Syrian people living inside and outside of the country's borders. Lakhdar Brahimi - who served as United Nations envoy to Syria - tells Newsday that the UN has failed Syria.

Jordan is under fire from human rights groups for welcoming Sudan's President to the Arab Summit which is being held in the capital Amman. President Omar al-Bashir faces two long-standing arrest warrants from the International Criminal Court for war crimes and genocide. However, Jordan - a member of the ICC - said he had a right to attend the meeting.

There are not enough women in the Kenyan parliament, according to the constitution which states that no public body should be made up by more than two-thirds of one gender. The High Court says the government has 60 days to implement new rules to make sure this quota is met. So, why are there so few women in Kenyan politics?
