Desert Islands Discs on the World Service’s Shores
Could Desert Island discs become a permanent fixture? Plus, a listener's concern about racial stereotyping is finally addressed by Health Check.
Desert Island Discs has been running for 75 years on BBC domestic station, Radio 4, but last weekend an episode featuring David Beckham was broadcast on the BBC World Service. Presenter Rajan Datar invites senior commissioning editor, Steve Titherington, to the Over To You Studio to explain the decision and one listener from Singapore wants to know why the format cannot be adapted for an international audience.
On last week’s programme, Mary from Uganda explained her concerns about a comment she heard on Health Check. Since the item, several more listeners have been in touch prompting editor, Deborah Cohen to come to the studio to address Mary directly.
