Justice department lawyer says it was the President's responsibility to ensure national security

A lawyer from the US justice department has set out the government's case for reinstating President Trump's travel ban on citizens from seven mainly Muslim countries entering the United States. The attorney, August Flentje told three federal judges it was the President's responsibility to ensure national security and that people coming from those countries posed a real risk of terrorism.

The wife of the Russian opposition activist, Vladimir Kara-Murza, has told the BBC that she believes her husband has been poisoned. Mr Kara-Murza, a fierce critic of Vladimir Putin, is currently on life support in a Moscow hospital after his wife says he suffered multiple organ failure - for the second time in two years.

Over three hundred parliamentarians in Somalia will be choosing the country's next leader today. Regular elections could not be held across the country because of the ongoing attacks by the islamist militant group Al-Shabab.
