Gambia's Adama Barrow president-elect calls for direct talks with Yahya Jammeh

The president-elect of Gambia, Adama Barrow, has said he's available for direct talks with Yahya Jammeh. He made this offer in a BBC Newsday interview. Mr Jammeh, the outgoing president, is refusing to go and has taken his case to the country's Supreme Court which says it won't make a ruling until until May.

Later today, the US government is about to announce an easing of some of the financial sanctions against Sudan. The east African country is on America's list of state sponsors of terrorism.

The United States has ended a special immigration status allowing Cuban nationals to enter and remain in the country without a visa.
