The so-called Islamic State (IS) group is "a brutal opponent" in the fight for Mosul, the head of coalition forces for Iraq and Syria has told the BBC. Iraqi forces on Thursday said they had re-captured the town of Bartella, less than 10 miles east of Mosul.

Fifty years ago today 160 children and 28 adults were killed in the Welsh coal mining village of Aberfan, when a colliery waste tip suffered a catastrophic collapse which covered the local school just after the children arrived for their lessons. We hear from some of the survivors on this anniversary.
