Hurricane Hits Haiti and the Dominican Republic

Hurricane Matthew hits Haiti; US Vice-presidential debate; 401 marathon man.

Hurricane Matthew has pummelled Haiti with winds of more than two-hundred-and-twenty kilometres per hour -- wrecking crops and homes along the southern coast. Initial reports say the hurricane killed two people in Haiti and four in the neighbouring Dominican Republic.

The two American vice-presidential candidates have held their first televised debate. The Democrat Tim Kaine faced the outgoing Republican governor of Indiana Mike Pence at Farmville in Senator Kaine's home state of Virginia.

One man in Britain is close to achieving 401 marathons when he sets out for the last leg of his challenge today.
