The party of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is heading for an easy victory in parliamentary elections. Partial results suggest United Russia could win nearly 50% of the votes but voter turnout is thought to be a historic low.
The United Nations General Assembly is meeting and will discuss global migration and the refugee crisis. One of the speakers at the UN General Assembly is Nadia Murad Basee Taha, a 23-year-old Yazidi woman from north-west Iraq, who escaped captivity from so-called Islamic State.
The already fraught situation in Indian-controlled Kashmir just got worse over the weekend, with a deadly attack by unidentified militants on an army base in the region. The population of Kashmir continues to struggle under a strict daytime curfew.
