What is Behind Surge in Chicago Violence?

Chicago violence; Syria strikes; Zika safe sex guidance.

Last month saw the largest number of people killed by gun violence in the US city of Chicago in 23 years. Over the past weekend alone 65 people were shot in the city. The BBC's Ian Pannell has spent a week in two of Chicago's most violent neighbourhoods.

Syrian government forces have been accused of dropping barrel bombs containing chlorine from helicopters on a suburb of Aleppo, injuring 80 people. Volunteer emergency workers say people suffered breathing difficulties after an attack on the Sukari area.

Men and women returning from any area where the Zika virus is circulating should practise safe sex for at least six months to avoid the risk of spreading the disease, says the World Health Organization. It comes a few weeks after doctors discovered the virus in the sperm of an Italian man six months after he first had Zika symptoms.
