Brazil Prepares for Olympic Opening

The eyes of the world are on Rio de Janeiro where, later on Friday, a flaming torch will be carried into the famous Maracana stadium and used to light the Olympic cauldron, signalling the official start of the Olympic Games.

The Russian Olympic Committee says that most of their team will be allowed to take part in the Rio Games.

The ruling ANC party in South Africa has performed badly in the polls at local elections, the first such result since democratic elections were first held in 1994.
