Is South Sudan Heading Towards Civil War?

Renewed violence in South Sudan; Portugal beats France; Racial tensions in the US

Fighting has again broken out in Juba, the capital of South Sudan, despite the UN Security Council calling for the president and his deputy to rein in their rival factions. Hundreds of people have died amid fears the country is sliding back into civil war.

Huge crowds have been celebrating in Portugal after the national football team beat France to win the European Championship in Paris.

In the United States, anger surrounding the deaths of two black men at the hands of police last week sparked widespread protests nationwide over perceived ongoing institutional racism and discrimination. That anger boiled over into extreme violence against the police themselves in Dallas last Friday, when a lone black gunman targeted police officers overseeing a protest march - killing five and injuring seven. After this flare of tensions, President Obama insisted the country can overcome its racial divisions and rejected comparisons with the civil unrest of the 1960s. The question is for the vast majority of Americans, public and institutional alike, is there a will for change?
