The Battle of the Somme began 100 years ago on the 1st July 1916. The BBC's Allan Little travels to France and reflects on one of the bloodiest battles in human history.

Haiti's political and economic crisis continues as caretaker President Jocelerme Privet vows to stay on even though his 120 day term has expired. Once known as 'the pearl of the Antilles' and the richest colony in the World, Haiti now has the poorest population in the western hemisphere.

Police in Bangladesh say a Hindu priest has been hacked to death - the latest in a series of attacks on religious minorities by suspected Islamist militants.
