Donald Trump Urges Republican Party to Unite Behind Him

Donald Trump is described as 'presumptive nominee' of the Republican party; Syria ceasefire hopes amid international diplomacy; BBC reports from inside North Korea

Donald Trump has urged Republicans to unite behind his campaign for the US presidency after knocking his main rival, Ted Cruz, out of the race for the party's nomination. The Republican national committee chairman, Reince Priebus, described Mr Trump as the party's presumptive nominee.

The United States is increasing the pressure on all sides in the Syrian civil war to establish a ceasefire around the city of Aleppo. The Secretary of State, John Kerry, says there will be repercussions for Bashar al-Assad's government if it fails to adhere to the truce.

The BBC has been granted access to the normally closed world of North Korea - following a group of Nobel prize-winners being shown different parts of the country - and has been to Pyongyang to find out more about education there.
