'Fifth Beatle' Sir George Martin Dies

Tributes pour from around the world; Trump and Sanders win in Michigan; EU Migrants crisis

The influential British record producer, George Martin -- often called 'the fifth Beatle' -- has died. He was ninety-years old. In a message on social media, the former Beatles drummer, Ringo Starr, paid tribute to Martin. He also tweeted a photograph of the 1960s band members together with the producer. George Martin won multiple Grammy awards and an Academy Award for the score to 'A Hard Day's Night'.

The leading Republican contender for the US presidency, Donald Trump, has reaffirmed his position as the party's frontrunner with wins in the key industrial state of Michigan, as well as Mississippi. Also, US networks say that Bernie Sanders, has won the Democratic primary in Michigan, in an upset for the front runner Hillary Clinton.

Human Rights Watch has criticised European states for closing their borders to migrants. Its director for Refugee Rights, Bill Frelick, told the BBC that the move represented a deep moral dilemma for Europe, because the migrants were overwhelmingly refugees fleeing for their lives. Mr Frelick's comments come on the heels of Slovenia closing its border to migrants not seeking asylum.
