Part two of a series examining human evolution. The programme discusses the emergence of the first humans and how the invention of tools, first used over 1.5 million years ago, helped advance early civilisations. Early humans were a member of either two species, the Neanderthals who populated Europe and Homo sapiens who populated Africa.
