Chinese stocks tumble; California gas leak; Charlie Hebdo killings remembered

Trading on China's stock market is suspended for the second day this week after prices plunged by more than seven per cent. An automatic shutdown was triggered less than an hour after business opened.

California declares a state of emergency in response to a major gas leak which has forced thousands of people from their homes.
