Bujumbura Sees Daily Violence

Ongoing violence in Burundi; Pakistan executes Islamists; Alzheimer genes

Newsday's Nkem Ifejika is reporting live from Burundi about the ongoing violence in the Central African country. Civil unrest escalated earlier this year after President Pierre Nkurunziza launched a bid to prolong his term in office. In July 2015, he won the presidential election, but UN observers said the poll was neither credible nor free.

Pakistan has hanged four Islamists convicted of playing a role in the attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar a year ago. At least 144 people, mostly children, were killed in the attack.

Scientists say they have identified a group of genes that could either speed up or delay the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
