Alek Wek is a New York-based supermodel who spent years of her life fleeing from civil war. At the age of 9, she walked for four weeks through the bush in southern Sudan with her family when her home town was overrun with militia and government forces. She sought asylum in London as a teenager and just a few years later was discovered by model scout.

Alek Wek talks to Anne Soy about being a top model, life as a refugee and being a unique beauty by western standards.
