Athletics Doping Scandal; LGBT Ugandans; Ken Saro-Wiwa Execution Anniversary
As the World Anti-Doping Agency commission has recommended that Russia should be banned from athletics competitions, the International Association of Athletics Federations president Lord Coe has said he will seek urgent approval from the governing body's members to consider sanctions against the Russian athletics federation. Newsday speaks to anti-doping consultant Nicki Vance.
Hundreds from Uganda's lesbian and gay community have fled the country to escape homophobia and persecution, hoping for a better life in the US and Europe. But they are now stuck in neighbouring Kenya (some in refugees camps) where the situation is not much better. The BBC's Emmanuel Igunza reports.
Today marks the 20th anniversary of the execution of the environmental activist and writer, Ken Saro-Wiwa, who campaigned against the pollution caused by the oil industry in the Niger Delta. To discuss his legacy Newsday spoke to Lazarus Taman, Coordinator of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People and Suzanne Dhaliwal of Action Saro-Wiwa.
