Nine Killed in College Shooting in Oregon

Gunman dies in shootout; Russia accused of indiscriminate strikes; South Africa child rape

The 26-year-old gunman, who opened fire on a community college campus in the US, has died in an exchange of fire. Following the shooting, President Obama has delivered an impassioned plea to the American people to act on gun control.

The United States has accused Russia of carrying out indiscriminate attacks on opposition forces in Syria. But the Russian foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, defended the bombings. He said they were targeting the Islamic State group and 'other terrorists'.

The Virgin Cure is a new film by Zambian born film-maker Nyasha Vera, about child rape in South Africa. It looks into the belief that the increasing number of rapes in recent years stems from HIV-sufferers searching for a cure by sleeping with a virgin.
