Inside the Tea Gardens of Assam
The working conditions for tea workers in the tea plantations of Assam.
Tea is one of the world’s most popular drinks and much of the tea we drink comes from India. But, in an industry worth billions of dollars, what is the human cost of a cup of tea? Working conditions on tea plantations have been criticised by human rights groups who say that workers often have to endure long working hours and insanitary conditions. For Assignment, Jane Deith spends time with the tea workers of Assam.
