Love From Hate

The former South African policeman who was given shelter by a black South African woman, once on the other side of the anti-apartheid struggle.

Lourens Groenewald is a white South African and a former policeman, who was involved in the notorious suppression of the Soweto Uprising. Dorah Mazibuko is a black South African whose son was active in the fight against apartheid. Mpho Lakaje tells the story of their unlikely friendship.

Nazma Akhtar was working in a Bangladeshi garment factory from the age of 11, but she was so appalled by conditions that she set up a union as a teenager and has become a leading advocate for workers' rights in Bangladesh.

Romain Puértolas is a French novelist who's led an extraordinary life: he's been a police officer, a cleaner and briefly a secret service agent. His novel is called The Extraordinary Journey of the Fakir who got trapped in an IKEA Wardrobe.

An unusual romance in Kenya has been causing a storm on social media. Sarika Patel is of Indian descent, her partner Timothy Khamala is a Bukusu man, a subgroup of the Luyha tribe. They've had a lot of grief for being an interracial couple, although thousands of people have been tweeting their support with #MyBukusuDarling.
