Africa in the Spotlight
With Africa dominating the headlines, BBC Newsday editor Simon Peeks explains how the programme balances African stories and global news coverage.
With news about Africa dominating the headlines – from the Nigerian kidnapping to the Pistorius trial – Rajan Datar interviews the editor of Newsday about that programme’s focus on Africa. Rajan finds out how the breakfast programme goes about balancing African and global news coverage, the way its presenters are encouraged to be more conversational and how research showed that listeners wanted a more relaxed style of presentation at that time in the morning. Rajan also finds out how it has been received in Africa and America and he also hears how the World Service and African service won an award this week for their coverage of Nelson Mandela’s funeral.
