Reporting Typhoon Haiyan
Jo Floto on the challenge of getting correspondents into the devastated city of Tacloban and the need to balance reporting with the requirements to get aid to the victims.
The problems of getting aid and relief to victims of the catastrophic typhoon which hit the Philippines have made the headlines – so how have news reporters been able to get the stories out of a place where so many facilities have been destroyed. Rajan Datar talks to the BBC’s Jo Floto in Tacloban about the challenges that the BBC has faced in getting correspondents into the devastated city and the need to balance the priorities of reporting with the requirements to get aid to the victims. Plus, when Newshour celebrated its 25th anniversary recently it received emails from listeners recalling what it has meant to them – we hear about a listener’s experience in Russia in 1993 and from the programme’s editor, Lucy Walker.
