Now that Benedict XVI has stepped down, the search begins for his successor. But whoever replaces his has the task of trying to hold the Catholic Church together following the child abuse scandals, while also facing the challenges of a world where, in various places, attitudes are rapidly changing towards issues such as homosexuality and contraception.
