The student and male friend were attacked by a group which included the bus driver on Sunday evening.
Delhi has long had a reputation for not being a safe city for girls and women, particularly at night in comparison to other major cities in India
Comments on social media sites have been calling for more severe punishment for men convicted of rape including castration.
