The BBC Philharmonic, one of UK's most distinguished orchestras, brings a varied programme to the Royal Albert Hall under the baton of their Principal Guest conductor Vassily Sinaisky. To start with, an orchestral work by Robert Schumann which is a three-movement symphony in all but name. Towards the end of the programme, a couple of very popular dances from the pen of the Viennese king of the waltz Johann Strauss the Younger. And in between, a tribute to the conductor Sir Charles Mackerras who was originally scheduled to conduct the concert but who sadly passed away just a few days before this Proms season began.
